Jonathan Vilma Arrested - Confirmed

OK, OK now I'm still half asleep and just quickly scanning these posts and this is the jest of what I've read-

Johnathon Vilma was caught driving while intoxicated while planning a hit with Pacman and TO in his vehicle, hit two pedestrations, threw them in the back of his vehicle, resisted arrest and is now in prison for life.

Pretty close to what you'd get from the thread. I don't know where the DUI idea started, but there was no alcohol, no DUI at all. If there was, the way that is reported now, we'd know already. The report doesn't even say speeding, just weaving in and out of traffic and running a red light. my guess is the pedestrian issue happened at the red light.

Is he in the wrong? Absolutely. He ran a red light. but was he doing it on purpose or was he distracted, on the phone, late, etc. He's still guilty of the infraction, but what are the circumstances? As to coming close to hitting two pedestrians, I don't know. When he ran the light, were the pedestrians barely crosswalk or were they inches from Vilma's bumper? The article isn't clear and we can't assume.

All that said, he absolutely screwed up when he refused to get out of the car for the officer. He was asking the officer for a reason to get out of the car which makes me believe he may not have known he ran the light and/or came "close" to the pedestrian. But once he had the "heated exchange" with the cop, he's going to get cuffed and stuffed...he's lucky he wasn't tasered or worse.

Listen, I'm part of the character brigade on this board. I hate knucklehead athelete's and I want them as far away from this team as possible. I don't think Vilma is one of them. He has no history of problems. By all accounts he's a nice guy, great in the community, and an upstanding citizen..that has just screwed up, and not a little. But we will know a lot more about the man in the way he conducts himself after this. Is he contrite? Did he really not know that he ran the light and thought he was being harrassed? Does he regret bowing up at the cop? Time will tell.
