The term "qualifying free agent" is unknown but I would imagine that players who retire or were cut or signed from the street would not qualify. If that is the case then we have this list...

From that list we signed 5 more than we lost. The salaries are about even.

Which of those are "value" signings and which are not is pure speculation but it appears to me as though there will be no compensatory picks for the Saints.

I do believe that there is a chance that we may get a pick in exchange for Faine because Tampa paid him so much and our highest paid free agent signing was less than half of that but I'm not 100% sure of how it works. Nobody really is outside of the NFL but Adamjt13 is about as good as it gets.

If we take a cue from last year's projections by Adamjt13 and say that players who make less than $750,000 then we can adjust the list to this...

Lost
Jeff Faine to Tampa Bay $7,000,000
Olindo Mare to Seattle $1,625,000
Terrance Copper to Baltimore $1,193,750
Jamie Martin to San Francisco $830,000
Total $ 10,648,750

Signed
Mark Brunell from Washington $1,795,000
Bobby McCray from Jacksonville $3,300,000
Randall Gay from New England $1,762,500

Total $6,857,500

If these adjustments are correct then we may have one or two picks but I really don't know for sure. I'll leave the real predictions up to Adamtj13.

I'd say that we don't get any considerations for Jamie Martin (I don't think that he played) and that we may, at best, get a sixth rounder for Faine because McCray partially offsets his loss. Just my guess and is based, partially, on Adamtj13's stuff from last year. The fact that Brunell didn't play for us may help offset the Martin thing and give us a seventh but I wouldn't count on it.
