Triplett says Saints Interest in Chris "Beanie" Wells is "Bona Fide"

Payton will always run a pass oriented offense. that is his style, its not going to change. and there is no reason for it to change, considering the offensive success he's had with that approach. The Giants rushed the ball over 100 times more than the Saints did last season. The Giants offense is based on the run. The Saints offense is based on the pass. The Giants needed to use 3 backs because they run the ball way more than we do. with PT averaging 4.8 ypc there is no reason to take the ball out of his hands, but that is exactly what would happen if we select Wells. just does not seem like the smartest use for our number 1 pick, considering the problems we have on defense and the superiority of our offense.

There was room for us to run a LOT more than we did last year, and still maintain a passing predominance. Payton opted to pass in some cases because the run game was unreliable, not because he didn't want to run. '06 was the offense that Payton wanted to run, not last year's offense. In '06 we struck a perfect balance in the offense between run and pass.

You seem to like PT, but there were a more than a few times early last season where he failed to get us the 3rd and shorts that we needed in crucial moments in the game. Those moments weren't lost on Payton just because PT had a few good games later in the season when teams were caught off guard with us running. I think it's safe to say that Payton isn't completely satisfied with PT's performance.

You think picking Wells would be detrimental, but it would be just as detrimental to pick a defensive player in our spot (not named Malcolm Jenkins) just because we ranked pretty low in the NFL rankings last year. It has to be a pick that makes sense for our team. If Jenkins is gone and all's left to pick are some DEs and some roided up LB, Beanie makes a lot of sense.
