Triplett says Saints Interest in Chris "Beanie" Wells is "Bona Fide"

If the Saints have a specific kind of back with a specific skill set in mind, and Wells fits that description, and Jenkins is off the board, why is it a bad idea to pick him???? They can't count on the possibility that the guy that they have targeted in the 4th round will be there, unless they have Wells and some other back rated pretty closely, which is almost certainly not the case. All they can go with is what they see right in front of them, which is Wells sitting there at #14.

They definitely seemed prepared to upgrade the RB position, so if RB is the BPA at #14 (in their opinion, not yours) then it makes sense to go with Wells.

running backs can easily be found in the later rounds, especially if you are looking for a one dimensional guy (short yardage power back) rather than an every down RB. And thats what the Saints need. We dont need an every down back who gets 15 carries a game. Reggie and PT should both get 10 carries a game, that doesnt leave 15 carries for another running back. If QB is BPA, i guarantee we dont take him because we already got our man. We already have Reggie and Pierre at RB. We dont need to draft someone to move ahead of those two on the depth chart because those are two solid running backs. what we need is a power back to compliment what we already have. no sense in wasting the first pick on Wells, especially when a guy like Sean Smith will be available who fills a need and could develop into a better NFL player anyway.
