Artists it's okay to hate

Are all of those bands you mentioned indie? Is Iron & Wine indie or is it more folk? Is Nico really the Nickelback of her genre? By association, would the the Velvet Underground also be considered a sort of Nickleback?

What exactly is Indie music, if not independently produced and created music? I would call The Killers Nickleback before I would call The Arcade Fire a "Nickleback" of a genre that could encompass several genres within itself. And I think that Nickleback isn't only the Nickleback of its genre,it's the nickleback of a **** genre to begin with. Of a genre that we've been through before (not necessarily a bad thing) but with less meaning this time around.

I'm not saying you're not entitled to your own opinion or taste in music, I just disagree that many of the bands you mentioned are bastageizations of their genre.
I used the "indie" to describe a genre of people, not music, in order to make a broad point and avoid writing an essay.
I really don't want to argue with anyone about this. Like I said, I misread the op apparently, and once again, I am getting flak for not liking the bands I am supposed to. I like loads of bands within the genres mentioned and that share the same genre as the bands mentioned. For instance, I love The Velvet Underground but hate Nico...whatever. Lets all just gang up on NICKLBACK for bastageizing pop radio. Like I said, ya'll are acting like 1 genre has more artistic merit, but that is all subjective. For example I rather listen to Stevie B sing Springlove than The Arcade fire. At least I know I will be having fun..."Springlove....come back to me........and thats when my heartache begaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan, heart ache be-ganan" Yeah thats wassup!
