This is a hackneyed explanation and doesn't hold historical water. Great RBs tend to have an IMMEDIATE impact on their teams. Sanders was even better than Bush in space but adjusted very well to running in the NFL. Here's a list of the rookie statistics for the top 30 all-time RBs:
