it just seems like- even before that *other* disaster that occurred in 2005-- this event was never really commemorated or mentioned in the news, anniversaries, etc... Living in NOLA, i was barely aware it had ever happened, and only then b/c of my folks' involvement. I'd be interested to hear from other NOLA natives here who weren't aware of this, if there are any.
