Grading The Game

OFFENSE 3½ fleur de lis.
The Saints were not able to run the ball or get Reggie Bush involved, but they didn't have to. Subscribing to the adage, "You take what the defense gives you," the Saints were all too happy to throw the ball over the top of Tampa Bay's attacking defense. Quarterback Drew Brees completed 24 of 32 passes for 314 yards, including touchdowns of 52 and 45 yards to Devery Henderson and 15 yards to Marques Colston. Colston was tremendous as usual, catching a career-high 11 passes, and Henderson had the best game of his career. Both receivers played well in the absence of injured Joe Horn. Rookie offensive tackle Zach Strief also made a nice debut as the starting left tackle in place of injured Jammal Brown. The Saints didn't allow a sack and did not commit a turnover, a far cry from last week's disastrous performance against Baltimore. The only negative was a lull in the second quarter, when the Saints went three-and-out on four consecutive possessions and allowed the Bucs to score 14 unanswered points.
