Call of Duty:Modern Warfare 2

Well, I suspect your point deals with some societal issues that Little League Soccer brought into vogue with everyone getting trophies, and I agree with your sentiment to some extent, but we are not talking about a child development tool here. It's a game and even if it's not perfectly equal and even if they give some help to lesser players and the best don't always win, it really comes down to is it fun or not? Halo can be fun, I've honestly had more fun playing KZ 2, but I get some enjoyment from Halo multiplayer. And, it has nothing to do with whether the better players always win. I'm pretty mediocre and usually finish in the middle of the pack, if not worse but that does not change my enjoyment level. On the other hand, Warhawk, which is also by your criteria what we should strive for, I don't find fun because the experience/skilled/better players have so much advantage that all you really end up doing is ground pounding and getting killed by Warhawks from above. Hence, not fun.

So, I ask you, do we do this hobby to have fun, or do we do this hobby to prove who is the best at quickly moving and touching things with our fingers? Personally, I do it for fun, and while I'll admit that it's not always fun when a game is too unbalanced, sometimes it's not fun when a game is too balanced.

Anyway, I just though it was funny that you called a PS 3 exclusive a great game. I know that had to hurt given the rootkits and all.

This is the issue: why do we enjoy the games that we enjoy?

I submit that competitiveness has traditionally been an aspect. Pulling back and taking a panoramic view, I'm not sure I want to live in a place where people have fun by just participating. I'm sure you and I could sprawl this discussion into something that wouldn't be interesting to most, but my thoughts are obviously rooted in my feelings regarding Objectivism and man's nature.

But to scale it down to VG board relevance, it ain't just me who is worried about this game. Other forums are filled with COD veterans who are worried about these new additions. Even the perks have perks -- there is something called "pro perks" that make the perks even that much perkier. It's getting ridiculous, and players are worried that MW2 will be a noobfest. I find that ironic, because I've always considered COD multiplayer to be a noobfest.
