What do you pay per day in utilities? $30/day here

Wow over a grand for heating?? Whew. Something has to be wrong. I would check with the neighbors and ask what their bills were. Call the gas and electric company as well.

Here is what I have done for my Gas furnace. I also have gas logs in one room (rarely use them and a gas stove).

7 day programmable thermostat (the $40 version is fine) set at 62 from 10 pm - 6:00 am. 67 from 6:00 am - 8:00 am and then back to 62 until 6:00 pm - 10pm it goes back to 67. (Some people swear that a steady state is the way to go but I disagree). The wife has found the overide button and frequently overides it however as she is forever cold.

Dec was $125
Highest bill was in January at $150.00
Feb will be down below the $150.

7-8 months out of the year it is $10.00

For Electricy I am on the steady pay plan of $92/month.

This is for 2800 Sqft home.

I have electric hot water heater (I have also heard the tankless suck) that I have on a mechanical timer set to the same schedule as the furnance. You can get this timer/switch at Home Depot for $40 bucks. I think it helps alot. No reason to heat water during the day or middle of the night.

New windows will be on the list for this year as my current windows are 1978 pieces of crap.
