PSA: Dining in Baton Rouge

Ruffino's is like an expensive Olive Garden. I'd much rather have Monjuni's; Rama was bad the one time I went; Superior Grill is good if you've never had real Mexican food; I've never been to the Roux House (I don't know why not); Walk-on's is where I take out-of-town people who want to go to Chili's; Riverside Patty makes a decent burger; Pastime makes horrible pizza, but a real good roast beef po-boy. Galatiore's is okay, but I'm not keen on dropping 420 for an oyster po-boy. It's terribly overpriced and I don't think that the food justifies the added cost. I think they're just ripping off Baton Rouge citizens with their name.

The rest are either chains or I've never visited, so I can't say. I can't stand behind any of these. I'm tempted to add Waka House for sushi, but I've only been there once. It was far and away the best sushi I have ever had though and I like that it was a small place.

I'm not a huge fan of Ruffino's but several folks I know swear by them. But to compare it to Olive Garden is harsh at best. Never had a bad meal at Rama. Where in BR are you going to get real mexican? Been to La Renya and it was borderline inedible. Only been to Walk-on's twice, but was decent both times. i will agree it is very "Chili'ish". We'll just have to disagree on the pizza at Pastime and the one time I got the roast beef it sucked. Galatoire's was very good the times I've been. I wouldn't rank it as good as the original, but it is certainly no worse than Roberto's and about the same price.

The only chains listed I thought are local. And for the record, I wouldn't put any in your T1 category.
