Scouting combine's value is overrated

Whatever excitement the NFL scouting combine originally generated has long since dissipated.

The thrill is gone.

And so, too, appears the main purpose of the combine, which is as overblown and over-hyped as any event attached to a league that, because it boasts of having the most popular sport in the nation, already is plenty windy and hyped.

Do you know what NFL teams learn when they flock to Indianapolis for four days to view prospective employees?

They learn who speaks well, some assisted by mock interviews conducted by slick, media-savvy representatives.
