--Saints quarterback Drew Brees was selected as the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in a 31-14 win at Tampa Bay last Sunday, the NFL announced Wednesday.

Brees hit on 24 of 32 passes for 314 yards with touchdowns of 15, 52 and 45 yards and no interceptions. He had a season-high passer rating of 136.7, the highest by a Saints quarterback since Aaron Brooks had a 138.8 with five TD passes in a 45-7 win over the New York Giants in 2003.

This is Brees' third career player of the week award and first in the NFC.

--Saints wide receiver Marques Colston, a top candidate for rookie of the year honors with 44 catches for 700 yards and seven TDs, became only the third player in NFL history to accumulate 700 or more receiving yards in the first eight games of his career.

The others were the Chicago Bears' Harlon Hill (802 yards in 1954) and Houston Oilers' Bill Groman (708 yards in 1960).
