You know, this is nothing new. Not sure when in American or European history this was, but they used to bury some people with a bell at the surface of the grave, connected by a string run through a pipe to the interior of the coffin. That way if you woke up, you could ring the bell for help.

thats where the phrase "dead ringer" came from. because if you saw someone that looked a lot like someone else you knew that had already died, you would say "man, that boy sure is a dead ringer for my cousin Bob"
