Having Babies

I was wishing it was all a bad dream even up until I was in the delivery room. It was unplanned ( at least on my end) and even though we had been married a couple of years, I wasn't ready. Through all the books, classes, baby clothes, baby furniture, doctors visits, baby showers,ultrasounds,...etc. I was an unwilling participant (inwardly) and I'm sure it was visible outwardly to some degree. It all changed once he was delivered and I saw him and held him. In truth, I don't think anyone is really ready for their first and the guys don't have the benefit of all the feel-good hormones being pumped into their bodies. I'm glad of the outcome and wouldn't change it for the world but there have been times in the last twenty years that I've considered seeing about a trade-in. So when some guy asks me about it all these are the three things I tell them. 1) Smile, nod, and do everything that's asked of you during the whole event regardless of what you think or feel.2) Everything will be different once you see your child.3)Stand at her shoulders and look toward her feet during the delivery. You'll be there to assist and you will see enough without seeing too much.
