Reggie Bush College days revisited..
People can claim all they want that defenses are keying on him, that he is a special athelete just waiting to bust out, that the Texans are stupid for passing on him, but the fact is none of that is true. After 8 weeks defenses would not be keying on him so much with no production. Defenses key on LT, LJ, Tiki all the time and they still put up huge numbers. Not Bush. Is he a special athelete? Yep, he's a great athlete. He just hasn't learned that his dancing and outside running won't work in the NFL, and even when he does, his style of running won't work between the tackles.
Okay.. I spoke on this subject in a previous post.
Heres why I disagree with the point of other backs successes.
Imagine, being lined up in the backfield, only 40% of the time, and having a defense who heartedly committed to stopping you.
LJ, LT, Tiki etc...., do not face, a defense, that is 100% committed to stopping the run on every play.
Reggie is in a since our "Special Man", so when he lines up at running back it is an all out "Red Alert" to the defensive team.
If you are the defensive coordinator. And your #1 job is to stop the other teams most dangerous offensive weapon.
Which option would you chose:
Option 1: Have him play 40% of the snaps, and play him 100 % on those snaps when he lines up at the tailback,
or
Option 2: Have him play 100% of the game as a RB, And chose to play him hard core on 40 % of the snaps.
Think about it.............................
option 1: Is Reggie Bush
Option 2: Every other featured back in the league.
In this situation if I'm the defensive coordinator, i'd want to play Reggie Bush every Sunday. No other back in the league would be as dominant in Reggies situation. No way LT would have as many Highlight Reels if he was not the feature back. If coordinators only had to worry about LT on 40% of the chargers plays. I garuntee the defenses coordinator would go 100% all out to stop him on all those specific plays. For any running back option one, as bad hand to be dealth.
Throughout the course of a game, coordinators have to go laid back against the run, or you will get killed in the Passing game, and that as why we continue to put up rediculous pass #'s when Reggie is in the game (good job Coach Payton). Teams are sacrificing their pass defense to committ to the run.
Good thinking by the opposing coordinators, Better stategy by Coach Payton. He'll take having Reggie average 3 yards a carry if that means his passing game will be unstoppable.
6-2 aint never hurt nobody....
