Aren't you helping the run defense by drafting a DE? After all a lot of the big runs against our defense come when our DE's fail to contain the cutback lanes or our OLB's aren't quick enough to get to the edge. A DE will improve our run defense a whole lot more than a DT can at this point.

We'd be a whole lot better off by signing a Barry Cofield type DT in FA and drafting a DE. We have a serious age issue at DE, Smith will be 30, Brown will be 32, and Wilkerson will be 30. Considering that's one of the most important positions if not the most important position in a 4-3 defense that's not a good problem to have. We need youth in a bad way.

you are right to a point. DEs do help the run but only if they are a run stopping DE like charles grant or will smith etc. guys like julius peppers or shawn merriman that are considered elite DEs are usually pass rushers only

yes we need DEs, but we only have 3 DTs on the roster. 2 of them are actually DTs and the others are DT/DE hybrids

and stoppin the run starts in the middle of the line. yes it helps to have DEs that can contain, but thats more scheme than personel. a solid DT that holds the middle of the line forces runs to the outside where teams become one dimensional. if you know a guy cant run up the middle its a lot easier to stop an offense
