There were some drops, but Brees wasn't exactly accurate.

Plus, the receivers aren't our backbone. They're dressing. Our team starts and ends with Brees.

So while there might be other issues, I'm focused on the one that affects outcomes the most.

Even if he flames out in a 4 interception performance, I want to see him do it with confidence. You gain nothing by playing tentatively when you're as awesome as he is.

I recall reading that in the off season last year, Brees and the receiver got together all off season and worked on routes and the little things that they made look so easy last year. That didn't happen this off season because they were all busy with other things because of the Super Bowl. I think that is showing on the field. You aren't seeing as many of those back shoulder throws or plays where Brees puts it in the exact right place and maybe that little bit less preparation has cost them the perfection they had last year. Brees is still great, but he's not in perfect sync to the receivers to where they seem to have a telepathic connection the way they were last year. That leads to the less than perfect passes, more drops than we should have and possibly the lack of confidence you see.

I also think part of it is trying to work Bush into the offense. When he was out, Brees got used to looking for Moore and the TE's as his safety valves and now he has to look to Bush. It will take some time to adjust just like it did last year when Bush was hurt.
