Saints can’t hold on

PITTSBURGH — Saddled with a 2-6 record at the halfway point of the season, the Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers were in need of some serious help going into Sunday’s game with the New Orleans Saints.

So the Saints walked into Heinz Field and gave the struggling Steelers just what they needed: three fumbles on offense, some big plays on defense and a dose of much-needed confidence as they try to get back on track following a dismal first half.

The Steelers turned two of the takeaways into touchdowns and scored another after a missed field goal by the Saints to come away with a 38-31 win in a game they simply had to have. The offensive slugfest included 984 total yards, with the Saints finishing with 517 and the Steelers 467.
