Time Out: Saints unable to overcome turnover bug

PITTSBURGH — For one fleeting moment Sunday, Deuce McAllister thought it was going to be the New Orleans Saints’ day after all.

The Saints had already turned the ball over twice, which led to 14 points for the struggling Pittsburgh Steelers, and the defense had been stung for two runs of 70 yards-plus by Willie Parker. Those devastating plays set up another 14 points on a pair of short scoring runs by Parker.

So when center Jeff Faine’s shotgun snap eluded Drew Brees and rolled right to McAllister with 8:05 to play, he simply picked up the ball and turned it into a 4-yard TD run to pull the Saints to within seven points at 38-31.
