the VG board football thread

I love me some football, but these studies about ex football player brains are scary. Enjoying watching a human get concussed and break bones for entertainment is a dark road. Roman Colosseum dark. And it's human nature to some extent, but i don't think it's a part of the human nature we need to actively cultivate.

Think about it. We take football injuries for granted. If you got your knee pushed backwards by a car that nudged you at an intersection, you'd be taken away in an ambulance, have surguries, visitors at the hospital with flowers, and likely never walk the same your entire life. Someone has that injury every week in football, and we almost trivialize it because it's so frequent. "Man, another ACL tear. Damn, there goes my fantasy season." Dark road.

Damn, didn't mean to WATS, but that's a scary thought if you think about it.

Not to be a downer, but to add to this, there are studies that suggest that ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) is related to the damage that player's brains take from playing football. Apparently, there is a high incidence of ALS is former football players. Given the recent news about Steve Gleason, it's a sobering thought that makes me think maybe the NFL really just has to do something about the issue.
