the VG board football thread

Well Widge that's incredibly sensible. But where's the fun in being sensible.

Of course there's a huge overlap. And just as most lsu fans are morans, so are most saints fans. Especially now. In the old days, when there were +/- 40,000 saints season ticket holders, I maybe could make a different argument. But those old school 40,000 faithful have been overrun, trampled, and diluted by the unwashed masses.

Sometimes it's much more fun to hate without a foolproof argument, clinging to a mere kernel of logic or reason. And that's what I'll continue to do.

But there's also this: if you have two, you don't really have one. Feast on that.

I am a Saints fan. I have no fallback position. Even before the spread offense ruined college football by creating a generation of horrible quarterbacks, my interest in college ball was minor. All my eggs are in the Saints basket.

Some years ago, I bought a watch. I plan to one day give this watch to my kid, after many years of me wearing it. Recently, I've had a craving to get another watch, but I don't. You know why? Because if you have two, you really don't have one. This watch will be on my arm every day; I won't be deciding between one or the other. At the risk of anthropomorphizing too much, I'm developing a relationship with this one watch that wouldn't occur if there was another watch involved. And if I raise my kid right, he'll appreciate that after they plant me.

I humbly (or self righteously, whatever) submit that those who only have the Saints are more committed, more invested, and yes, bigger fans than those who also share their football related emotional resources with lsu.

So in the words of me, which I've noticed antipop co-opted in another thread, take that.
