Le Richelieu Hotel Review
First a row mansion, then a macaroni factory, then a hotel, and finally a Katrina victim -- this building has seen it all, including part of its roof collapsing. But the latter mess allowed for some new paint (or textured wallpaper), carpet, drapes, and beds, and consequently Le Richelieu looks as good as it ever has (though some rooms still look rather motel-like, thanks to dated mirrored walls). Bathrooms are still the same, only fair, just like any old hotel. Other rooms are standard high-end motel rooms. Many have balconies, and all overlook either the French Quarter or the courtyard. Le Richelieu is good for families (despite the surcharge for children), being away from the adult action and with a nice pool. The McCartney family thought so; Paul, the late Linda, and their kids stayed here for some months long ago while Wings was recording an album. Le Richelieu is the only hotel in the French Quarter with free self-parking on the premises.
