Comeback quarterbacks face off in Superdome

METAIRIE, La. - Two crushing hits. Two grueling rehabilitation regimens. Two successful comebacks.

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees and Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer weren't strangers during the offseason. They kept in touch as each All-Pro passer attempted to return for the 2006 opening day.

Even though Brees (torn right labrum in his throwing shoulder) and Palmer (torn left ACL) didn't share injuries, they did share painful ends to their 2005 seasons.

Brees dropped back to throw against the Denver Broncos when John Lynch blindsided him, jarring the ball loose in the San Diego Chargers' final game last season. Brees tore his labrum while diving for the football.
