How Colston rose above Bush in rookie rankings

Just before midnight on April 28th, 2006, fanatical followers of the New Orleans Saints began to scream and holler in jubilation. While waiting in line outside the Radio City Music Hall in New York City for the chance to watch the NFL draft live, they had just learned that the Houston Texans had chosen to forgo their shot at USC star halfback Reggie Bush in favor of selecting Mario Williams, the defensive end from NC State.

The reason for passing on Bush was unclear, but it didn't matter to the many Saints fans that started to flash the Fleur de Lis in unadulterated joy. They could have cared less whether Houston selected Williams first because team officials believed he would be a star sack artist or because they thought Bush would be too difficult to sign. The New Orleans fan base knew and focused on one seemingly immutable fact -- their savior had just dropped into their laps.
