I used to do this at local banks, but they've really gotten more difficult the past several years about dealing with bulk coin (especially if you aren't rolling it!). It is pretty tough to find silver as more people have gotten "wise" to it.
When I was in high school (quite some time ago) I really hit the banks hard for wheat cents. What was crazy is that every once in a while you'd really find customer-rolled rolls that were entirely wheat cents, but usually late dates that carried no premium. It was an easy way to find some difficult and expensive dates, although usually in just G and VG grades.
