20 QBs and 8 RBs have won the award since the last time a defensive player has won. 53 offensive players have won the award and only 2 defensive players have won.
AP had an amazing season but he hasn't done anything that hasn't been seen in the NFL before. 4 players in the last 15 years have rushed for 2k yards. It happens about once every 4 seasons. AP's claim to the MVP was that he almost broke Dickerson's record yet ED didn't get the MVP.
JJ Watt had a season we may never see again from a defensive player. He was a 1.5 sack away from the record. He had the most batted passes of any defensive lineman since they've been recording passes defended, he had more than twice as many tackles for a loss as all other defensive players. When teams went against him they gameplanned relentlessly to take him away but couldn't do it. He had more hurries and Knock downs than any other player in the league and did it at a position that usually sees very low stats. I've read some articles stating that by himself he was the main factor in forcing the opposing team to punt in a third of all the opposing teams possessions. That is the differenc in forcing 90 punts (Houston and the #2 ranked defense) and 62 punts (The Saints and the 32nd ranked defense). The only other defensive player on his team to make the Pro Bowl was Jonathon Joseph (and he shouldn't have made it).
