Dad charged with murder after killed drunk driver that had just killed his sons.

Americans have this weird romantic notion of vigilante justice. I guess it ties in with the mystique of the Wild West or something, but even our depictions of that are largely fictional. Those settlements were considerably more civilized and law abiding than portrayed in movies and TV. Things like the OK Corral were the exception, not the rule.

But anyway, while I think everyone understands the anger of the father in this situation, you can't go around meting out your own personal brand of justice. I think our legal system is a largely broken joke of an institution, but I still prefer it to a bunch of people running around pretending they're The Punisher.

Don't get me wrong. I have no romantic ideas about what the Wild West may have or have not been. I feel like we as a nation spend too much time, money and effort on idiots who don't have any regard for the law. I think if you take a life, you should forfeit yours. I think all punishments should be more severe in general. d&d first offense....5 years. If you hit someone, your car is taken and sold or just given to the person who's car you hit. Might make people think harder if it wasn't a slap on the wrist. I could go on but I'll digress.
