BoutyGate in the Rear View Mirror - A Year Later

I think enough time has passed and SP is back for me to be a little objective about this. I encourage everyone to add your thoughts.

- Pay for Performance and Bounties are gone from the NFL. This will really help the NFL against the concussion suits by the former players. I ask the SR attorneys, doesn't this help the NFL against punitive damages
- SP was the most Parcell's like rogue coach in the league. Goodell clearly established this type behavior by coaches will not be tolerated
- Goodell got more than even with SP for VicodinGate, showing up toasted for the morning after SB victory press conferences, and not acting on Goodell's P4P warnings in 2010.
- Goodell just received a 50% raise to over $29 million. This clearly says that the owners completely support Goodell's actions against SP and the Saints
- Goodell rubbed the Saints faces in the dirt by not giving the 2nd round pick back this season after the coaches and Benson seemingly abided by his conditions
- The only people negatively impacted are the Saints team and fans.

What did I miss?

- Perhaps, but it is sheer conjecture that this was the motivating factor behind it.
- More conjecture. Payton's behavior had little to do with the bountygate punishment.
- See above.
- Goodell's raise shows the owners support him in his role as commissioner. It says absolutely nothing about their feelings regarding bountygate. Was he given a raise "because" of bountygate, or "in spite of it"? You don't know.
- Giving back the 2nd round pick was something that we fans were hoping for, but nothing that was promised.
- Finally, something I can agree with but I don't see why you feel that this is relevant to anything. Objectively speaking, the team being punished should be the only ones that suffer.
