New Orleans Saints Draft pick analysis since Coach Payton Hired 2006 to 2012

Considering we got a starting LT, a respectable receiver sometimes/starter, and a solid back Db, I don't think u can say the 2007 draft was that bad (C+ in my view).

its not good though. no true impact players and the starter(s) were by all accounts consistently among the worst players starting.

think about it this way. Lets assume the career of a starter is about 7 years (an average nfl career is obviously much shorter but lets say 7 for starters). That means to get your amount of quality players into the nfl you need about 3 starters from each draft +udfa unless you want to be a systemic buyer in free agency. Assuming 1 starting calibre player player from UDFA each year you still need about 2 starters and 2-3 backups each and every draft to have a nice and balanced roster. This is also why i have issues with the staff being so aggressive trading picks away.

the 07 draft provided about half of what its supposed to provide in quality so it should really have quite a bad grade if you ask me
