Murder
Murders in NOLA will continue because it's a vicious cycle not just in society as a whole where uneducated parents breed uneducated and ignorant children, but in the criminal justice system as well.
When a murder goes down, most times witnesses won't come forward. Now there are two things at play here. One, I can somewhat understand, and the other that just infuriates me.
1. Witnesses feel they will face retribution from the thugs and can't be adequately protected by NOPD. In some ways I can't fault those that feel this way. When has NOPD proven to be competent? Would you trust your safety to them? Although idealistically, you would like people to take a stand and say enough's enough, I'm going on the stand no matter what, how realistic is it in that type of environment where it's proven that's a death sentence?
2. Apathy. This is the part that the white community doesn't understand. I'm not labeling all of NOLA's black community as being apathetic because it isn't, but its leaders say the stupidest things to make one believe that is how they truly feel. "Blip" "slight increase" etc. Those are not the words of an enraged community. The black community of NOLA is killing itself from within, but the so-called people's politicians and leaders aka Nagin, Jordan, Riley, the ministers, etc. refuse to take responsibility and would rather blam "the man." I feel for those within the community that want this to end and don't know how. The problem is you have a large uneducated voting bloc that has been fed lies and half truths about the evil white men keeping them down for generations.
