The argument that it is "crime" is a bit silly. It is a misdemeanor, along with parking tickets, speeding, misreporting taxes, underage drinking, experimenting with drugs, ticket scalping, gambling, etc. He hasn't even been charged, let alone convicted. If we keep making every poltician accused of a misdemeanor resign, we will never have any seniority and none of our representatives will last more than a few months.

On other hand, I find his "confessing his sin" to be just more of the same family value bs.
I'm not religious and find people who constantly cloak themselves in Religous vlaues, while doing "immoral things" a bit nauseating.
