Saints struggle to get grip on season

METAIRIE, La. -- Despite watching a turnover epidemic cost his team three of its past four games, Saints coach Sean Payton still mixes his critiques with a message of hope.

He can afford to for now, thanks to the 5-1 start his team raced to before the mistakes, and losses, began to accumulate.

"The good news is we've got another chance this weekend to get to 7-4," Payton said Monday, a day after four turnovers plagued an otherwise prolific offense in a 31-16 loss to Cincinnati. "We're tied for first with Carolina. ... There's a lot of football left in this season and lot of important football games left in this season."

New Orleans' defense has given up some big plays recently, but the real problem has been turnovers. New Orleans committed four against Cincinnati and three a week earlier during a 38-31 loss at Pittsburgh.
