Cutting the cable, lets talk options and media setups

Well my plan is complete and I am officially one of the cord cutters. I then bought 2 Amazon Fire Sticks (since I am already a prime member). This gets me content from Amazon along with Watch ESPN and all those channels (yes longhorn and sec network). I pushed KODI to the fire sticks, and added in channels which give me commercial free DVR like services for shows. I also pushed SportsDevil to it for live sports. Once this seemed to work find, I closed my 10 yr old DirecTV account about 10 days ago. I then got Amazon.com: AmazonBasics Amplified Indoor/Outdoor HDTV Antenna - 60 Mile Range: Electronics which I put in the attic, fed the DirecTV splitter, to get local channels to the TVs.

I like my setup, works well, and do not feel like I am missing much if anything. Things I learned:
1. The amount of OTA HD channels was stunning, like 83 of them in my area, with foreign options (not just spanish!) like India, Vietnam, etc.
2. The quality of the local HD channels via OTA is beyond words. You do not realize how bad it is via DirecTV or other compression based mediums.
3. WatchESPN quality is also very high but more like ESPN HD on DirecTV.
4. I wish I had better live sports streaming quality from sports devil, as most channels are in standard def. But it is watchable and workable.
5. It is a blackhole, quicksand death to see all the options for KODI. So I got what I wanted and let it be. I could research options for it for ages.

Thanks to those in the tread who made suggestions, like the antenna.

Wanted to follow up and say that I've finally cut the cord several weeks ago. Bottom line is I'm saving $150/mo. on TV!!

I went with the RCA Antenna in my attic which gets great reception. As well as the Xbone and Amazon Prime. For now thats everything we need for TV, my kids are happy that they can surf and watch shows on demand. I promised them Roku or Amazon sticks for their bedrooms in the near future.

Question for Terrence, I was under the impression that you had to have cable to get Watch ESPN. I haven't been able to log into it since I cut the cable. Does it come across for you because of the Amazon stick?

Also the other day I was moving the cable wire from the antenna and had to unplug it for a sec. I was surprised that it gave me a small shock when I touched the tip! Is this normal that the line is a little hot coming from my antenna?
