NS: Dolphins new coach
Whenever we have a good year on defense, the biggest change I see is our tackling. In 2013, we made a ton of open field tackles, and stops from the first defender. Guys wrapped up, were in position, and took good angles of pursuit.
When we have bad years, the tackling is terrible. Everyone arm tackling, out of position, and whiffing on hits and tackles.
These guys are pros, but there is a lot to benefit from keeping the fundamentals fresh. I know we run a complex system, but there's a reason why some clubs can have successful units after so much turnover. They ensure the basics of a defensive athlete remain top priority.
Doing drills like this, even in mid-season, is a great way to stay polished in technique. Something I believe the Saints could really benefit from.
I know theres the injury risk, but I think its riskier for injury to send players on the field with poor technique.
