Buying Retail

Remember the days when you went to the store, you grabbed some items, you went to the register, the cashier told you how much it was, you paid for it and you left the store?

Remember those simple days?

Now it seems every time I check out anywhere it's a game of 20 questions:

No, I don't want to sign up for your store credit card

No, I don't want to sign up for your store's rewards club

No, I don't want to take an online survey to enter a $5000 sweepstakes

No, I don't want a free 3 month magazine subscription

No, I don't want to donate a dollar for hungry children

No, I don't want to donate a dollar for children's cancer research

No, I don't want to donate a dollar to save the rainforest

No, I don't want to donate a dollar for hungry kids with cancer living in the rainforest

Sometimes I don't mind as much, but other times it really gets on my nerves

Does this bother anyone else, or is it just me?

It annoys me beyond belief and especially when they hand you a 2' long receipt with a bunch of nonsense printed on it. I keep receipts folded up in my wallet so I tear the junk off and hand it to the cashier.

It's gotten ridiculous.

When they ask for your phone number I tell them my wife monitors my calls.
