Ingram benched [OLD THREAD BUMPED]

I saw a few flashes of the elite acceleration at times this season but certainly it hasn't been consistent. Perhaps there is an injury we're unaware of.

I think Ingram bounces back and solidifies his starting position again to the disappointment of many Saints fans. He'll have a great game in a week or two and many will complain that he should have been great all year or minimize his success. Because he was a first rounder, Saints fans have expected an all-pro RB and that he is not BUT he is way more than just average.

I do look forward to Ingram being traded to a more run-oriented team and to an offense that is a better fit for his skill set. The issue with Ingram is not skill but rather compatibility. An argument can be made that at times Payton underutilized Ingram in the passing game or failed in giving it to him more consistently to develop a rhythm as he did with Hightower yesterday. Flame away but my feeling is that over the course of the game Ingram could have had similar success as Hightower yesterday had he been given 26 carries OR touches. It may have looked different but I think there could have been a similar outcome.
What I am wary of is how long Payton will force Ingram to get him to bounce back. We are still behind the pitch count and need to win games more than manage Ingram's confidence. If Hightower is the the hot hand than need to ride him to victory, above all else, and work Ingram back in slowly.
