Coach O or not to O?

I listen to a lot of Baton Rouge sports radio thanks to the internet and podcasts. Im usually only a day behind, with the exception of Rohan's and Mike Detillier's weekly segments on AFR. I listen to the SEC network's shows, CBS podcasts, etc. I have yet to hear a single person refer to Jimbo as an offensive genius. First they mention his record, the national title, etc. Then they mention his QB development. Its been a hallmark of his time at FSU and I find it no coincidence that Jimbo was the last QB coach to actually develop a QB at LSU. Jimbo is proven. While there are no guarantees in sports, Jumbo is as close as you're going to get in a coach not named Saban.

The 2003 team averaged over 400 ypg. The #1 defense certainly was the more dominating force, but its not the reason why LSU won. The offense played a huge role. It was far from just being along for the ride, so don't dismiss it. His offenses consistently averaged between 350-400 ypg and scored between 28-33 ppg. That's roughly about the same as the Saban Era at Bama. 2007 was probably the best year offensively at LSU and that was because he pretty much had offensive autonomy. This was all long before Saban saw the light and moved towards a more spread put offense. Prior to that his philosophy was the same as Miles. Physically overpower people and control the clock with a running game and throw just enough passes to keep the safety out of the box.

What has he done lately? He should have won several ACC titles? He's 4 years removed from a Championship and 3 years from a playoff appearance. He's won 3 conference titles in 6 chances. Only Nick Saban can say that right now. The last two he's been rebuilding and replacing coaches for a school who won't pay assistants ****.

I guess I can see where you'd be more impressed with Ed's accent and 11-3 record, though.

I don't have an issue with Orgeron. I actually would not be upset if Jimbo turns down Alleva and for things to work out for O. However, in no way, shape or form is Orgeron a better candidate for LSU.

Period.

I haven't seen anything that would state that Jimbo would clean house. Craig formerly worked for him and was the recruiting coordinator at FSU under Jimbo. The two have a great relationship. He's been trying to get Corey Raymond to FSU for years. Dave Aranda is the best DC in the country right now, so who in their right mind would move him out? If Aranda leaves, its because he leaves. Grimes and Fisher worked together at Auburn if I recall. Outside of that group, who will be missed? We know Jenkins is done. Ensminger? Peveto? Juluke? None of those guys are irreplaceable. Recruiting might take a small hit, but not as bad as Miles' first season. Austin Thomas and Craig will see to that. Odds are still that LSU finishes with a top 10 class at worst. Even then, Alleva can stipulate that some coaches are retained, just like when Jimbo remained after Saban left.

Orgeron is a possible casualty. That would stink. He's a great recruiter and a great D-Line coach, but he doesn't have the market cornered on either.
