Yes, and it's popular with people of German decent. Other than that I don't care too much for German food, and share the disdain others have for sauerkraut.
The difference being that the meat we ate raw was likely killed a day or two prior, and was almost certainly local. There were abundant cattle/dairy farms in western and central MD back then.
