Nick makes it sound like making Byrd a June 1 cut still helps us in free agency this year.

It helps because money is fungible.

That 7.8m from Byrd will simply cover signing the draft class, which often doesn't happen until after June 1st anyway.

So we do have more money to spend in the coming FA period now because we know we'll have the money for the draft class later.
