I think the Romo love wouldn't be so intense if it wasn't for the fact that he threw 5 tds on national tv Thanksgiving day. Those national showcases usually get a big buzz going.

Now granted, for Romo, he was already getting a lot of love prior to going off on Tampa's defense, but it's hard not to pay attention and talk up a guy when most of america watched him throw touchdown after touchdown.
Even my girlfriends mother, who almost never watches pro football, said : "Is that guy (Romo) the best player in football? He's sure playing like it!"
-- As we all know, national sportscasters don't report on things that die-hard fans or students of the game care about. Why? Because we already know everything they know. They dip into the flavor of the week (in this case Romo -- three weeks ago it was a pass-happy Vick if you'll remember) to look like geniuses to the casual sports fan.
Praising a "hot" player and dubbing him the "best" is a weekly occurence.

It's a marathon not a sprint. Brees is a veteran playing at an astrnomical level, Romo is the flavor of the week. He may have a few super games in his future, but he's not immune to the struggles that will inevitably befall him when these defensive coordinators, who get paid lots of money, get a little film on Mr. Romo and start disrupting his game.

You nailed it. Nice post.
