DeMarcus Walker please. Underrated DE from Florida State University.
You guys make a lot of sense. Should I change my opinion? I didn't realize that there was a strong side or anything, just good and bad DEs.
Well of course I think you should change your opinion or I wouldn't have said anything. :)
There's basically four spots on the defensive line, and to think about it in a simplistic way, here they are in order from smallest/most athletic to strongest/least athletic:
1. WDE (RE)
2. SDE (LE)
3. DT
4. NT
Now, here's how I would list our guys on a depth chart currently:
WDE: Okafor, Kikaha, Gwacham, LaFrance (camp guy who may get cut in UDFA this weekend)
SDE: Jordan, Tapp, Loewen (see LaFrance), Pettway (see LaFrance)
DT: Fairley, Onyemata, Zimmer
NT: Davison, Rankins, Fairley
Now, there's a little problem with that. Rankins is really a DT, but he's got a similar size to Davison, and he's a great pass rusher from NT in passing downs, so I listed him there for depth purposes. So you could say the roster is a little heavy on DT (but not really, because NT don't play much these days). That's why anybody we draft that "can kick out or in," is probably going to be buried between the #2 and #3 spots, #2 being the spot Cam plays, #3 being all our other proven healthy pass rushers. Make sense?
