Saints mailbag: Three running backs on the field at same time this season? -- Underhill

I completely agree with his answer regarding Peat. They spent a #12 pick on the guy (which Payton's buddy Gruden predicted flawlessly on air) and then a bunch of strange things kinda keep happening to the guy.

He's at Stanford, so he misses some early time due to school scheduling.
Strief finds the fountain of youth. Seriously, this guy has played outstanding the last two years.
Armstead develops into a top 3 LT.......and continues to be lost for large portions of the season.
Peat shows that the right side of the line isn't for him, so he finds a place at LG. Then he fills in reasonably well at LT.
Ramcyzk gets drafted. A very nice LT who Payton thought projected great as a RT, only to see Armstead go down again.

Maybe I just have B&G glasses on, but I think the kid's a player. The Saints simply have the weirdest collection of talent, and yet no perfect solution when it comes to their 4 OT's. And Peat has certainly been the guy who's progression has been hampered by it the most. I get it, if he really was that much of a monster, he would be the unquestioned LT of the future and yada, yada, yada. But I hate that he is spoken ill of when it's not his fault he was drafted 12th and its not his fault he has been moved as often as he has.

Look on the bright side when thinking about Peat as a player. He's good, he's versatile (enough), he's young, he's cheap, and he's still improving.

And that's enough for me.

Good analysis on Peat. It's mind blowing to think if things work out a certain way, Armstead could be considered depth in a few months.
