2018 Draft Prospects

Dallas Goedert will not be running the 40 yard dash.

Oh yeah he did, but he's fine now. I'm not worried about his 40 time at all. He's shown enough speed. Zach Ertz ran around a 4.8. Goedert's coach has said he runs 4.65. Even if it's 4.75, that's plenty fast.

"Speed" is just a bonus at the TE position. I mean, how many times are you actually going to send your TE on flies and deep routes in general? It's the ability to get open, catch, and block. Even though his competition was well below average, Goedert does appear fast/athletic enough on his reels. The unanswered question is not his athleticism, though, it's if his production will actually translate against legit talent at the pro level.

Regardless of where we stand on Goedert, the fact is no one has ever seen him compete against blue or even red chip talents, let alone the elites. Like the prospects or not, dudes like H. Hurst, Gesicki, Schultz, Andrews, Herndon, Izzo, Fumagali, Thomas, etc. have played their entire college careers against future NFL talents/players. The competition is night and day, and I think youre more comfortable w/the projection when you consider who those guys have faced on the field. I think Goedert can hang, but again, it's yet to be seen in real life. All we have are a handful of reps at the Senior Bowl, an incomplete pro day, and reels w/a bunch of catches against non-FBS talents.

I am a fan of Goedert, though, but I cant play blind mouse to all the inconsistencies and question marks. I def think Hurst has jumped him as the best TE on deck. I liked H. Hurst but wasnt as high on him in the beginning. But after rewatching a few South C games w/my bro it's hard to deny the physical tool and all around game H. Hurst has at his disposal. Plus, we've seen Hurst completely solidify his status as a pass catcher, blocker, and as an athlete throughout the process. The man is a complete TE. We havent seen Dallas since his hammy gave out on him at the Senior Bowl. That sucks, but it is what it is.
