The pats did not recoup what they gave up to get him . The first round picks are basically a wash, not much difference between the 32nd pick they gave up to get him and the 23rd they got for giving him up to the Rams. But that was only part of the deals. In our trade they also traded a 3rd rd pick for a 4th rd pick to get him and now with the Rams they traded away a 4th rd pick for a 6th rd to get rid of him. So basically, they traded down from the 3rd rd to the 6th to rent him for a year. I wouldn’t exactly call that getting back what they gave up.

To say that the 1st rounders are a wash is incorrect. To get from 32 to 23 on the trade value chart is the equivalent of getting an extra mid to late 3rd rounder in the deal. Going from the 4th round to the 6th round is the equivalent of giving up a late 5th rounder. So, they did recoup what they gave up (and a little more).
