Is Ted Ginn Under Valued
Our offense doesn't really have a #1, #2 receiver... of course Brees has his go-to guy in Mike Thomas, so I guess we can call him a #1 receiver.
But with the way Payton has built this offense... each receiver has a "role". You have your possession guy (Colston/Mike Thomas), and you have your field stretcher (Devery/Cooks/Ginn). And you have your utility guys that can do a lil bit of everything (Meachem/Snead).
Ginn excels at his role... he definitely blows the top off the defense and gives our offense plenty of space to work. I think bringing back Ben Watson will be huge in our offense because we had almost zero production from the TE position, so teams could defend us a certain way... which explains our horrid 3rd down percentage. Our offense has never had the issues on 3rd down that we had last year, and that was a result of not having a TE that could control the middle of the field.
Ben Watson will open up things for Ginn, and Vice versa. Not to mention the other weapons on the offense will have openings to make plays in the passing game. That doesn't even account for Kamara coming out of the backfield.
This is gonna be a scary offense to defend, and I can see Ted Ginn having a huge year. If you remember... when everything else was clicking with our offense, Meach and Devery were able to torch defenses. I can see Ginn having those same opportunities.
So Swimmer to answer your question... yea I think we're under-valuing Ginn now because we really couldn't see his full potential in the offense. He did great last year with the opportunities that he had, but now with more help on offense he's in for a huge season. His value won't get much higher.
