Will Bears regret letting Cameron Meredith join Saints?

For as much praise as Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Pace received this offseason, the one move that remains controversial was the decision not to match Cameron Meredith’s offer sheet.

The Bears tendered their restricted free-agent wide receiver with the original-round tender, a one-year, $1.9 million deal that wouldn’t give the team any compensation if another team signed him to an offer sheet.

The New Orleans Saints came in with a two-year, $9.5 million contract that Meredith accepted, and Pace surprised a lot of people when he declined to match it.

“Without getting into specifics, obviously he was coming off an injury,” Pace told reporters back in April. “We lean on our training staff and our docs. Hey, I got a lot of respect for Cam and a lot of respect for the organization he went to. We wish him luck.” ...
