N/S - Josh Garnett possibly cut from Niners
I don't think there's more to the story because I don't think this is actually a story at all. If you read and click the provided links, it is shown to be just baseless speculation based on a quick quote from a Q and A article written by a journalist with no cited sources. The guy was asked who he thought could be the biggest surprise cut, and this was the best he could come up with, simply based on two free agency acquisitions (one of which is Jonathan Cooper, who's been terrible) and Garnett coming back from injury (nothing in there about character issues, etc). The writer swung and missed, but even unwarranted swings are beneficial for his job.
It's not happening though. Aside from Garnett's spotless character record, teams aren't going to throw away a very young, talented offensive lineman who's only accrued seasons so far have been a rookie season followed by a 2nd year cut short early by a knee injury, especially when he's still got 2 years left on a guaranteed contract. They have way too much invested and nothing to lose by simply letting him develop for another 2 seasons. Cutting him now would be akin to had the Saints cut Peat (his former teammate) after his disappointing rookie season - and it's a darn good thing we weren't short sighted enough to do that. High profile rookies get injured or have disappointing starts to their careers all the time, and go on to become elite caliber players shortly after. Heck, even Cooper, another former 1st round OG, got 2 additional seasons of awful play after his rookie season was cut short by injury before he was finally packaged with a 2nd rounder to snag an elite defender in Jamie Collins from the Pats.
