He's a Saint and since he's a Saint, I'm pulling for him. He hasn't done anything in a black and gold uniform to give us reason to be down on him. He doesn't carry a heavy price tag. And he does have one thing over Hill (and Barrett). He's played in actual NFL regular season games as a quarterback. When is the last time Sean Payton went into the season with a back-up QB with no NFL game experience? ...never.
Now, that could change of course. For all 3 QBs behind Drew on the depth chart, this entire offseason is a man-to-man-to-man competition. And like you said, may the best man win. Of course the fan favorite is Hill. Uber-athletic and obviously a real football player having shown up several times on special teams for us. However, that does not give him the upper hand in this competition. Trust is the key. In other words, who does Payton, Carmichael, and Lombardi trust to come off the bench and give us the best chance at winning a game in case of an undesirable event (which I will not say nor type)?
Like it or not, Savage is our #2 until somebody beats him out for that job. It could happen, and that would be fine in my book as it means that (likely Hill) has shown enough to get the job over a more experienced QB. Also, like the OP states... if that does happen, I hope that Tom Savage gave him all the competition he could handle.
