Comic Book Talk
Can't we keep politics out of our comics? I read comics to escape from the real world. :(
This insanity between the Alt Right and SJWs has infected everything. Entertainment blogs and sites I've read for years that were never the least bit political now spend half their time preaching and condemning. The zeitgeist right now is "everything must be political," and I'm getting kind of sick of it on all sides. I don't follow any creators on social media anymore because they're all seemingly crazy and on one side of the extremist spectrum or the other. Like Mark Waid and Ethan Van Sciver are 100% diametrically opposed politically, but both are completely awful in their inability to shut the fork up about any of it and I now regard both guys as completely toxic personalities.
And it's not just comics. It's movies, video games, TV, music. Everything.
I'm burnt out bad on all of this. Probably a reason I've been deep diving into old stuff lately. It's almost calming to go back and just read or watch something for entertainment and removed over the insane social and political conflicts of the late 2010's. So, so burnt out on it all.
And yeah, I get that politics and social commentary obviously has a place in art and some of my favorite things are actually political and socially minded. But you can handle things with nuance or you can beat people over the head with a sledgehammer, and right now it's all just beating people over the head with a sledgehammer.
